ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE
ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE is inspired by the sounds and emotions of city and beach life in Los Angeles. My move to the city from a small midwestern town has been a journey of sight, sound, smells, and emotions that are a far cry from the small Nebraska town where I grew up. The sirens and automobile sounds bouncing off the city buildings outside of my studio at The Makery in Little Tokyo, where the culture is rich and diverse, make me feel alive and eager to translate this excitement into art. My piece TRAFFIC directly reflects this sensation.
With the smell of the ocean and the sounds of the waves on the beach near my new home, I feel both the excitement and tranquility of my new urban lifestyle. OCEANA and CIELO refer to the peace I feel daily from the time I rise in the morning and until I go to sleep at night. The contrast between the energy of my studio and the serenity of my home creates a harmonious balance in my life and shows in my work.
As an abstract artist, it is wonderful to me able to translate this sensory stimulation onto canvas, where I love to express my emotions. I feel a deep love for life in Los Angeles and I hope this show conveys the warmth I feel for this environment. I often find it difficult to convey my emotions verbally, but art is an outlet that is very therapeutic.
